Plastic Certificate
|
|
|
| Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone has their CCNP cert in plastic form instead of
laminated paper?
I got mine in laminated pocket-size paper. But a few guys working for me
got their CCNA in plastic.
Cheers.

| Last week, I got my CCNA card.
It was a laminated card , to tell the truth, it looks cheap. I didn't know
there is a plastic CCNA card I have expected it like a plastic MCSE
card................

It seems that most certification materials have gotten lots cheaper
over the last few years. I completed a NNCSE and got a plaque, but
some others a few months later only got paper certificates because the
plaques were discontinued. I thought those CCNA/NP laminated cards
were a joke too. Why even bother sending me crap like that? To me it
cheapened the whole thing even more than if they hadn't sent those
stupid cards at all.

| So what? and who cares? if it is made up of plastic,
laminate, or toilet paper. It's not like a credit card
or a driver's license where you are whipping it out
all the time.
The value is in what it means, and what it stands for.
Think of your diploma. What was THAT made of ???
Just feel good, and be proud of your accomplishment!

I think it is because throwing in all the extra junk kind of cheapens
it. For example, if your diploma arrived with a kooshy and a credit
card offer and cheap lapel pin and a drink koozy, it would make what
you accomplished feel a little cheaper. IOW, throwing in all the
mickey mouse club stuff makes it feel like a mickey mouse club that
you just became a member of.
It seems to me that it would be better if they *just* sent a nice
looking paper certificate. A paradox, yes. Sometimes less is more.

| I have a drawer full of paper certificates from various vendors. They may
look pretty, but they sit in the drawer. Manufacturers are cutting their
budgets like everyone else. The first things cut are the frills. (Pretty
Certificates)

| I agree. What makes the card even worse is that you can see the fine-perf on
the edges. Can't they even have them trimmed before they're laminated?

Well personally.. I'd rather if it wasn't made of toilet paper... well...
then again, it might come in handy on camping trips ;-)

Well, now you can use it as a reusable & washable toilet"scraper".
It's really a multifunctional card. Just don't forget to clean it
before your next job interview.

| I think that a laminated paper card is about right for CCNA. The
analogy with the drivers license is a good one... you learn stuff, you
drive around the block a couple of times and at the end you have a
basic level of competetance. Anybody with a CCNA who sells themselves
as an expert is kidding themselves. Having said that, you are one step
ahead of those who haven't got a CCNA (nor experience).
The biggest value of the CCNA is that is its a stepping stone to the
CCNP.
The biggest value of the CCNP is that is its a stepping stone to the
CCIE... not technically in terms of prerequirements, but if you can
pass the CCIE without the intermediate levels, good on you. I doubt
that I could.
The biggest Value of the CCIE is that Cisco works on a reseller model,
and to be a prefered reseller, you need to have at least a couple of
CCIEs on staff. The are only around 8000 active CCIEs in the world.
Even though its not as good as five years ago, there is still a demand
there.
Face it, the backbone of the internet is Cisco, and that CCIE is still
worth something.
Oh.. and to all those reported CCIEs on the unemployment queue..
shutup move your stinking arses. I know for a fact that Mexico is
looking for people. But if you prefer to earn nothing in your home
town than take less in another country (with its lower cost of
living), don't come whinging to me.
By the way. Chile, with its population of more than 15 million, has 11
CCIEs. I hope to make that 12 before too long.

See, I got a plaque for my first NNCSS, and a sticker for my second NNCSS,
and then a certifcate for my third NNCSS (no sticker for plaque) and a
certificate for my NNCSE (which is infinitely harder than an NNCSS...)...

Now that I think about it, you are exactly right. I did get that
plaque for the NNCSS and then the little metal plates to go on it
after that. I think I got one NNCSE plate before they changed to
paper certificates. At any rate, I had enough to fill the plaque if
they hadn't stopped with the plaque/metal plate program. I thought
about going to a trophy shop to have the plates made that I rightfully
earned, but never got around to doing that...

True. They actually look like a real charge card. Have you ever
logged into the MCSE secure website (the one that has additional crap
you can buy)? I thought the MCP action figures (no, I'm not joking)
were a bit over the top, LOL.
