Is there a more decent IOS for my cisco 3000?

| I've got this ancient 3000, running a very outdated IOS version. Does anyone
know if there's a more recent version available? I have a CCO account, but
that only goes back to 10.3 and those images are too big for this thing
(It's got only a whopping 2Mb of Flash).
As you might have noticed from my previous post, I am looking for a way too
boot an IOS that is bigger than my flash, but that didn't really work out
well...

I think it will boot 2500 images, there is a 11.0(22b) boot image, that
is 2004752 bytes - that should allow you to boot the system image via
tftp

You can load 2500 IOS images on it. Throw in an 8MB stick of 2500 flash,
and set the jumper on the right hand side (looking from the front) to 8MB.
With a bootrom upgrade it will even support 16MB of flash. I have a 3104
(2503) that works great and has been an important component in my lab for a
long time.

All those guys are right, 2500 images should work OK.
As for the flash problem, if you can't or don't want to add flash, you could
always configure it to boot over TFTP. If you don't want to rely on a
server, and if you have another router, you could put the image in that
router configured as a TFTP server!

| I've even zipped a normal 2500 IOS with winzip, put it on a flash on a
2500 (sorry, no 3000), and it self decompressed and run from RAM. In
the POST it even says that this is not the recommended way of working
on this hardware, but it works fine. You will loose most of your RAM
though, but if he doesn't have to do too much, you should be fine.

| I have the same problem. I boot it from a TFTP server. Alright, not the
best solution but it works for such an antiquainted piece of kit.
