Author CCNA/CCNP Practical Studies. What Equipment used?

Hi all,

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I can't find it in the
archives.

What equipment is assumed for the labs in the CCNA and CCNP Practical
studies books? I am looking to augment what I've got lying around the
house so I can get these damn bits of paper people keep talking about.

Currently sitting on a 1601-R, a 2511 and a 2912 XL. I need an idea
what else I should look at to cover the CCNP (and, I guess, form the
foundation for a CCIE lab). I've got a cheap (but not dirt cheap)
offer for a second 1601 (not sure if it's an R series or not yet) but
haven't decided if I should buy it or not.

Other thing is that there are 1005s all over the place for peanuts.
Are these things worth the money, or are one or 1601s enough low end
routers to fluff out the perifery of a meatier setup?

The only advantage I can see in the 1600 series is that the WAN cards
can be interchanged depending on the scenario, but as they don't do
BGP (am I correct in this?), maybe that's not a selling point. Are
there any modular routers that share the same WAN cards that are
useful (for purchase at a later date.. post CCNP)

Any other opinions appreciated.

Thanks

Matt

Most likely if you pursuing the CCIE certification you will eventually
purchase someone's lab scenerios.
CCBootcamp, IP Expert, etc...

Check the one you like out and get the hardware that matches their labs, as
far as the expensive pieces, ISDN, ATM , VoIP, Multiple 3550's, you can rent
time on a rack for $10 - 50 a day.
