| Hello,
I write this e-mail because yesterday night I read about the requirements
for renewing the certification state for MCT who are only MCSD (not only
MCSE, ...).
Yes, it's really true (I phoned this morning to the dedicated Microsoft call
center), if you decide to become MCT now, and you don't hold the MCSD.NET,
you can't renew your certification for the 2004 year, and this information
is only on the site dedicated to MCT (so, if you want to become MCT, "NOW!",
your only mean to know this information is reading mails in newsgroups!!!!).
Bye,
Luigi

| There has been info on the MCT site for some time regarding this. It's not
such a big deal though. Anyone who sees themselves as a MOC developer
trainer should already be well across this. Most MOC developer training is
currently on .NET products (the statistics show the vast majority is).
Anyone training such courses should be able to pass the exams.

| I don't think so. I'm an MCSD, and I currently don't hold any .NET exam; I
wanted to become MCT now and to renew my certification October 2003, and my
only mean to know that I couldn't, is reading e-mails in newsgroups.
I don't think this is correct.
Sure, maybe you already are an MCT, but I'm not; I'm a developer, and I'm
waiting to become MCT to teach MOCs. Have you understood the problem, now?
I'm very happy you already are an expert on .NET, though.
Bye,
Luigi

| Hi Luigi,
I don't follow what value you would currently get from becoming an MCT. The
only point of being an MCT (and paying the fees, meeting the ongoing
requirements, etc.) is to be able to teach MOC at CTECs. Almost all the
developer courses currently being taught at CTECs by MCTs are .NET framework
related courses. If you did become an MCT now, what exactly did you plan to
teach?
Many, many MCTs are leaving the ranks and deciding not to renew based upon
the level of work available. With MCTs overall, there are less than a half
of the number now that there were 3 years ago. If you join the ranks and
aren't able to teach most of the courses actually being run, I don't think
you'd be happy with the outcome. Most developer MCTs that are doing ok seem
to fit into the following:
* have a separate stable income so if there is no training, they'll still be
fine
* are fully up to date with certifications (that usually means sitting beta
exams to be ready to teach developers as soon as the products are released -
or prior to their release)
* work a large percentage of their time with the products they are prepared
to train
I'm not trying to discourage you but you need to know the reality of the
situation.
Regards,
