Hi folks,

My name's Ken Rosen, and I'm the product manager for Microsoft's Systems
Administrator and Systems Engineers courses, exams, and certifications.

I wanted to say hello, introduce myself, and let you know that I'll be
hanging around the mcsa, mcse, and mct newsgroups (and occasionally dropping
by our other certification related newsgroups). While I won't be much
help answering technical questions (although I might *occasionally* be able
to reach back to my MCT years now and then<g> ), I'd certainly like to hear
your questions, concerns, and suggestions about our training and
certification offerings.

A little bit about me:

I've been with Microsoft Training and Certification since 1997. Prior to
that, I was an active MCT, teaching Windows NT as far back as 1993 (I was
MCT #17 for Windows NT 3.1). I'm also an MCSE+I on Windows NT 4.0 (I never
upgraded my certification, although I did write or contribute to several of
our Windows 2000 courses).

Hmm. I also seem to be fond of parentheses.

Anyway: Hello, I'm your new neighbor. See you around the neighborhood!

Nice to see you. You have successfully convinced me upgrading NT MCSE to
W2K. I hope you finish upgradeing to 2003 MCSE before convince me to upgrade
to 2003 MCSE again. ;-)

Hi, Ken. It would be helpful if you'd configure a more meaningful user name
for your newsreader. Most MS employees also append "[MS]". Thanks.

My English is not quite good. What is the meaning of "how far along
are you?". At this moment I have collected all your certs, all tracks.
There is not much thing left to do. Just waiting for the result for
MCSD.NET.

I would like to know why Microsoft is so hard set against adding a practical
exam to the MCSE certification? It seems with the proliferation of "Paper
MCSEs" this would solidify the value of the cert.

I know that there are logistics involved, but MS has more money than most
countries. They just authorized approx $5 billion (or somewhere in that
range) for research and development. Logistics alone is almost a none issue
for a company with as much money as MS. Besides, Cisco is doing it, granted
it cost over $1000 for each attempt in their Lab, and they have very few.
I'd hate to have to pay that much even if I was confident that I'd pass the
first time through.

I think it's an issue of profit for MS. Being as large as it is MS' certs
dominate the industry. Because of MS' dominance in the industry they don't
have any direct need to raise the quality of their certs.

In my opinion of course.
