Author Career enhancement?

Greetings,
I was hoping anyone could offer some advice on obtaining
the MCDBA cert. Since graduating college with a BS in MIS
in '99, I've worked as a consultant, programming in
Access97 for telecomm, pharma, and mortgage co's. So I'm
well versed in Access, but a lot of job postings I see are
looking for people with SQL Server experience (Philly
area). And I'd like to make a move forward in my career.

I'm considering the MCDBA cert., but am uncertain because
MS lists having a year of SQL Server experience as one of
the requirements. I have total confidence I can study
enough and pass the cert.
But will the cert. without the experience be enough to get
me moving? And would this be a wise move to attempt the
cert without "on the job skils"?
I'm willing to put forth the time and money for the books,
training material, and even developer addition. But would
like any suggestions from the real pros that have
possibly "been there before" on a good direction to take
for the next step of my career.
Any advice is welcome. Thanks in advance,
Rob

Go for it, a cert with no experience in databases looks better than no cert
and no experience in databases. I would reccomend you hit labs and actually
do things with SQL server as you stufy for the exams not just hit the books.

or get to a Microsoft class and attend

2071, 2072, 2073
Becoming a good MCDBA with on job experience without using sql daily, forget
about it ....

One of my collegues wanted to become MCDBA as well, she studied hard, was
using sql enterprise manager but didn't have a real good query analyzer
understanding.

she failed, failed and failed

As MCDBA i have plenty of job, it's an added value for your career.

Go for it, but do not underestimate it
