I would say it is overkill for the exam. The book goes
into so much more detail than is covered on the exam. I
think the book is a must have for anyone serious about SQL
Server, if you study that and BOL and do some labs you
should have no problem with the exam.

70-228 - BOL and Inside SQL Server (already mentioned), transcenders are
good for this exam

70-229 - Guru's guide to T-SQL, Inside SQL Server, BOL, transcenders are
good for this exam too

If I "only" study Inside SQL Server 2000, do you think I would pass the
exam? I only have basic query expericnes, but understand the control flows,
variables, etc. used in SQL.

Many people say that the BOL (Book Online) is good. But is there a good way
to study it? Do you recommend to do a cover-to-cover using the table of
contents?

Thaks for your help.

Good way to study BOL, you might look at the requirements on the
microsoft.com/mcp page for the SQL exams, write them down and look them
up in BOL. Any term used in their explanations not understood could be
looked up in BOL or cross-referenced with inside SQL Server. I don't
think studying Inside SQL Server would get you to pass the SQL exams,
you would learn an awful lot but I'm not 100% sure it covers everything
on the exam. ALso, you might consider transcenders.

BOL are more of a reference than a study guide. I found it very helpful to
lookup *anything* I came across that I wasn't absolutely positive as to what
it did or how it worked. If there was a command I didn't know or a concept
that I hadn't heard of, I pulled up BOL and read up on it. It is also very
helpful in studying your SQL syntax. It is good practice to Create
Databases, Tables, Indexes, Triggers, SP, Functions... using the SQL syntax
and using the BOL will help you understand every aspect of the SQL Language.

Good Luck,
Matt

The MSPress study guides are written to specifically cover
the domain of each test. Of course, lots of experience
helps too
