Market seems to be rough but there are jobs out there. In the last three weeks I've seen more activity that I seen since the begining of the year despite the war. Personally I've had two interviews in the last week and start a job on Monday.

Most jobs are for Senior DBA's with 6 years of experience fine tuning the entire enterprise. Few advertised positions for Junior DBA's.

Depends on your technical experience, the business area your
experience was gained in, the location(s) where you wish to work and
the salary you are after.

So depending on those criteria it could be excellent prospects or not
prospects what so ever.

What's the easiest way to cross over to Microsoft with
about eight years of Oracle nonDBA experience? I am
looking for some skill set that is hiring like mad. I
can get some Microsoft training in any of the
certification programs that I choose but I want to choose
well. I am a RDBMS expert and I have been a consultant
for just about a decade. Would getting my Microsoft
certified engineer first be better for job prospects than
going the DBA route? So many questions so little time...

Since the tests that will give you the MCSE and MCDBA are interchangeable,
you might as well go for both.

MCSE - http://www.microsoft.com/traincert/mcp/mcse/default.asp
MCDBA - http://www.microsoft.com/traincert/...dba/default.asp

Please read through those pages carefully - coming back here for
"clarification" after you've been provided with the full links will only get
you flamed.
