| Hi Group,
I already have the MCSD, I've been wondering whether or not to "upgrade" to
the MCDBA. I have enough experience to obtain the exam.
The way I see it is, that the MCDBA Cert. probably adds no value to someone
who does not want to pursue a career as a DBA.
The salary surveys that I have seen place MCDBAs in any case on average many
thousands of USD below those with an MCSD.
Could be that I'm misinterpreting something, and that - for example - the
MCSD Cert. increases in value and "marketability" dramatically when
augmented by an MCDBA or MCSE Cert.
Does anyone have any experience or views on this topic?
Cheers,
Richard

| I suspect there is a interaction between the certs. It "demonstrates" a specific concentration of knowledge that some shops are looking for. In some situations administration (70-228) may be a useful addition to development skills. You may have to install SQL server at the client site and help administer the security. Many of the tests qualify for both certs so if you took either of the SQL exams (70-228, 70-229) for your MCSD you are half way there. With only a couple of tests you add some value to the old resume. | |

| Minor correction: Only 70-229 counts for MCSD, 70-228 counts for MCSE as an
elective.
I definitly think having multiple certifications adds to your marketability,
and having more understanding of how databases work will help you out as a
developer.

| I am a C++ developer mainly and I took MCDBA just as an opportunity to add
more skills to my resume. I can tell you from my experience that even having
just 70-229 about a year ago and about 1 year of SQL development experience
helped me get the current job.
Taking MCDBA not very long time ago gained me respect from fellow developers
and some managers. Somehow I'm "the guy" when it comes to develop good T-SQL
code.

| 70-229 does count as an elective for MCSE.
