Author MCDBA? Forget about it!

Had to laugh at this one.
I got my first cert way back when the MCSD included 2 wosa
exams in 1996/7. Since then I've moved into a pure dba
role and recently been encouraged to take the MCDBA cert.
Prior to my current study cycle (just finished 229 going
for 228 next), when a new version of sql came out, I
learnt what I needed to do my job (starting with ver4.2).
After reading the 2000 material I've learnt some new
features in 2000 that I wouldnt have found otherwise (the
old ways still work). So even though certification may
impress some people, the practical applications for my
current job are more than enough reason to study up for
certification. And if I'm going to study, I might as well
write.
So I'd have to say that even for a seasoned sql dba, the
certification process can have many benefits. I'm not
saying certification is the be-all and end-all, experience
plays a huge role.
