| With the new version of SQL Server coming in April, can we excpect a
revamped version of the MCDBA certification?
I had already completed 70-229 and was going to do 70-228 sometime soon...
but if there is going to be beta exams offered based on the 2003 version i
might shift my focus towards that.

| I'm plugging ahead on the 70-229. When I asked last week MS said "they didn't have any plans to change the requirements." You know it's coming but I'm not going to wait. | |

And they are always up front and honest about that.

| The new Windows is coming up in April. The new SQL Server version (codename
Yukon) isn't expected until the first half of next year.
MS Certification exam beta programs are by invitation only nowadays, so
unless you are in the select group you have to wait until the live release,
which is usually about 6 months after the product release. The actual
certification requirements for the MCDBA for Yukon are likely to be
available around the product release date.
I personally expect (wish?) a revamp of the MCDBA with Yukon, along the same
lines as the MCSD and MCSE got revamped, i.e. an intermediate level cert
with around 4 exams, and a expert/architect level cert with around 6. As you
can use .NET languages in stored procedures in Yukon a VB.NET/C# exam will
very likely be added to the core as will probably XML, and I think Analyzing
requirements is likely to make it into the expert level cert as well.
Hopefully the datawarehousing exam will be revamped as MS is pushing
datawarehousing and OLAP a lot at the moment.

| Don't forget to add that their initial statements are always correct. Erm...
well, there are still NT4 MCSEs, and weren't Windows 2000 & 2003 supposed to
be interchangeable for MCSA/MCSE... but Microsoft is always right. Argh.
Exception 70-FFF: Microsoft's collective mind cannot be "read."

| Where did you get the information about the April release?
Last rumour I heard a few weeks ago btw was that there's not even an Alpha
yet.
The first Beta will be a very limited (1500) release only anyway.

| I did a quick google search and found this link on SQL Server Mag's site:
http://www.sqlmag.com/Articles/Inde...ArticleID=27529
Of course that info may be outdated. I don't have a better source than that
so you may be correct. At first of course I panicked reading the other post
about SQL 2003 being "released" in April. Great I thought, just what I need.
Thought I had some more time... <g>
