Author Advice (SQL 2000 & MCDBA)

Early next year I (should) complete my MCSA (210 - 215 -
218 - 216) I've passed the 1st two exams.

If I pass two SQL exams do I become an MCDBA?

And...I've been using Informix for 4 years. Next year my
employer will be bringing in an application running on
SQL 2000. What are the best books to enable rapid
comprehension of SQL 2000 for both day-to-day use and
exam passing, given my current use of Informix?

Thanks.

The 70-215, along with 70-228 and 70-229 will get you DBA. 70-228 can also
be used for elective towards MCSE, if you go that route.

As far as rapid absorbsion, I would recommend getting a copy of SQL Server
and designing a database. Then, play around with the ENterprise manager. For
the SQL 2000 tests, you have to know more syntax (SQL 7 was mainly "Open
Enterprise Manager, right click on" types of questions, SQL 2000 is not).

Books Online is a great tool. Study it. It will help you out of a lot of
jams. And, BOL can get you to a passing grade if you actually experiment
with SQL Server, which is the best way to learn anyway. For a quick intro,
the programming SQL Server 2000, Step By Step book is fairly decent. With
your experience in Informix, you will likely rip through the examples fairly
fast. Not the best cert book, but it should get you a start where you can
let BOL and experimentation fill in the rest.

I agree with Greg, you can pick up SQL developer edition for $50.
