| Previously (Back in 1999) Microsoft used to give free MSDN and Technet+
Subscriptions as a benefit to premium certifications such as MCSD, MCSE
Now, these days, they are reduced to some discounts only.
For MSDN subscription, they are not even 50% discount.
I hope Microsoft can revive this benefit once again or atleast can
increase discounts. Especially MSDN Library edition is so important
to all Microsoft certification pursuers. a free or 50% subscription
will do a lot of help.
I hope many newsgroup members support this.

| Go away and take it up with microsoft.
If you or the company are too tight to buy an msdn subscription, you
should not be developing systems for the microsoft platforms.

| Do not worry about me. I had my resources as well as MSDN.
And FYI, I took it up to MCPHelp. They respond
positively for opinions and comments. When we call benefits, we should feel
they are.
Anyway Microsoft also giving some discounts already.
You may have a company or money to support yourself. It should not
hurt anybody if we are talking about for the benefit of a community.

Of course they do, we all know that. If you look around there are even
better discounts for their products.

No communalism dead. Like it or not you are on your in the big bad
capital world - Nothing is free.
I play soccer, so do I expect Puma or Niki to give me free boots? No.
| |
|
| Alan,
There is no point to argue on this. Everybody has
some source to get the MSDN library. Mr. Tang was just
proposing and not filing a lawsuit against Microsoft to
get a free MSDN subscription.
Moreover if you become an MCDBA, it was told by Microsoft
that MCDBAs get benefits. Since Microsoft was providing
the benefit of free MSDN subscriptions for one year, Mr.
Tang was just proposing the same benefit.
And it is nowhere mentioned by Puma and Nike that if you
become a soccer player you get these benefits but
Microsoft has mentioned that you get certain benefits by
becoming a MCDBA.
Anyway I guess we should just make healthy communications
in this forum rather.....
Just my two cents

| First of all his thread has been cross posted to the mcsd & mcse ng's.
Other replies have suggested that MS 'give away' msdn subscription's
which include operating systems, I find that ridicules.
My first reply (in the mcsd ng) was to point out that the msdn library
is available online for free.
What gets up my goat is that through these certification ng's, all you
see is requests for 'free this' & 'free that', 'please can someone
send me free tests'. My point is this, software development is not a
kids game, it is what enables business to business with each other.
For 'professionals' the price of the msdn (even universal) is
excellent value for money.
My point about football boots was simply to point out that in the
capitalist world, marketing tactics are employed to give your company
the edge over your rivals thus to increase sales and eventually
increase profits. Before Niki become a big brand name in football
boots, they used to supply one of the teams I played for with boots at
cut price. Once they become bigger they did not need to employ that
marketing tactic, so no more cheap boots.

Hey! we are not asking for FREE. We are asking what M$ so called "Premium
Benifits" when we gain certs. And it is not the same like someone asking for
FREE Transcender or FREE Microsoft eBooks. Think different.

They still provide free shirts and boots as "sponsor" in the World Cup
Scoccer and other various sports, if you don't know that. And they are not

The problem is that author in his/her wisdom cross posted the starting
thread separately to a number of groups. So, the context has been
distorted somewhat.
Below is quote from Henry (who has replied to your post in this
thread) taken from the mcsd.
QUOTE
It's true. But they should provide us FREE MSDN Subscription (which
includes
complete set of operating systems, SDKs,...etc) for some limited
amount of
period (Such as 1 year or when new version of certification came out).
END QUOTE
If you are upset by the fact that yours and microsoft's view of
'Premium Benefits' differ complain to them and refuse to use there
products.

No, software development is not a kids game no matter what platform it
is develop on. There is already too many combos's with no idea of how
to develop software. Certification has nothing to do with, in any case
microsoft certification has become a joke because of the way any body
can pass the exams.
The point is the price of the msdn is very good value. If a freelance
software developer /engineer or a company cannot justify the expense,
then what does that say about the software they produce (or should
that be hack together?)!
>They still provide free shirts and boots as "sponsor" in the World Cup

And that't the point I'm making they don't have worry about semi-pro
or amateur clubs (That is part of there market), they have top World
footballers to promote their products. Microsoft does not need to
promote their certification program, because there are hundreds of
thousands of people with 'premium certifications' and million more
wantabies.
At the end of the day there is nothing for free.
Take care

Maybe true for MCSE where there are a lot of dumps available on the net.
Certs such as MCSD are still valuable since most of the people cannot pass
70-100 exam by braindumps. The new ones (MCAD and MCSD.NET) are also hard
for those who usually pass with Braindumps.

Well as I've said, we are certified professionals by Microsoft. It maybe
"right" and OK for those who are not certified by M$ and should not get the
benifit. But we should.

We are MS premium certified professionals, aren't we? So we can't be treated
like amateurs.

Yes, that's because those wannabies are under the impression that when they
pass the required exams, they not only certified by Microsoft but also
recieve what is M$ so called "Premium" benifits. When they found out that M$
so called "Premium" benifits are just a bunch of discounts and free offers
to some third party offers (such as discount to some training and "PREMIUM"
membership to MCP Magazine ) lol) , then the popularity of the certs is
likely to less.

| This really has gone on long enough.
At the end on the day people can take the meaning of 'PREMIUM
BENIFITS' in which ever context they see fit. My view is these
'PREMIUM BENIFITS' are not worth jack, and I don't care and never
have.
There is no need for microsoft to introduce free or '90% off' type
deals to get people become certified, this includes the msdn
subscription(s), as there are hundreds of thousands of people who
already are.

| Castaway,
No I don't work for Microsoft.
Unemployed of sorts, but I am in the position of turning down work
which I have no interest in, i.e. work for
slap-it-together-and-hope-it-works type of client's, I'm sure you know
what I mean.
If you look through this news group (and others) see you see that
other posts would hardly put me in the 'Hard-core Microsoft supporter'
bracket. I do however recognize that microsoft are the dominate force
in small and mid-range systems market area and are making inroads into
the corporate enterprise market all to the time, hence why I
concentrate with there systems (and tools, most of the time). I would
say that one of the reasons for microsoft success is there support for
the professional development community as a whole. Technet, msdn,
online seminars, road shows etc, etc, not only help to promote
microsoft, but also help to enlighten the users of their tools and
products. Although in a way it pains me to say so, but it is an
excellent marketing strategy on microsoft's part.
Although this is an irrelevant post in the concept of this thread, I
thank you for your concern.
All the best

| I would normally put down 0 for Saturday as Friday always roles
Saturday and simply add, what would technically be Saturday, to
Friday. Not sure if that's the best way but....
