Yukon Certification

| Does anybody know when the new Microsoft Database
Certification will be availble (isn't it called Yukon)
and will it be worthwhile investing in the the
certification. I mean have they made it so easy that
they don't need a dba.

| Wow! How is it possible to get any info about certification before even
seeing a beta version of the product?
My guess is that maybe in 2004 we will hear something about the new MCDBA
and that only if the release of Yukon is really going to be this year.
From what I've heard .NET Servers release was already delayed.

I guess the [original] first quarter shipping date is out the window,
given that the first beta release is planned for Feb or even March!

I thought it was still April 24th in San Francisco.

Designing a proper database still isn't easy. I can only hope MS will make
the certification more difficult, so it gets up in value with Oracle's DBA
certification. I would like to see something like the Analyzing Requirements
exam (mostly datamodelling anyway) and also a specific exam about
performance tuning.

The exam formats are crap, but if start on specific topics as separate
exams, where do you stop? A separate exam for backup and restore
strategies, for replication scenarios, for clustering..... Each of
these (and more) are complex subject areas.

| I mentioned that because Oracle do have a performance tuning exam in their
certification and an Oracle DBA certification is worth a lot more than a
MCDBA.
I had a quick look and they now also have a Master DBA certification with a
practicum exam like the top level CISCO exam. i'd like MS to do something
like that as well, but maybe they use the MVP program as their top level.

| Sorry I missed out 'certification' after microsoft.
In other words, it's not like a 'top level' certifications as it's
'awarded' by 'invitation' - rather like how the Free Mansions work!
But I'm not knocking those who are 'awarded' it - wink, wink, funny
hand shake, dance twice around a copy of Bill Gate's latest book!
