MCDBA

2002-09-09, 3:28 pm

Hello all,

I have passed 70-228 and 70-229 and I am looking to
complete my MCDBA soon.

My goal is to further my knowledge in SQL Server. When I
was checking for my 'Electives' option, I have 70-019
(datawarehousing for SQL Server 7.0) which is a old
version of SQL Server.

So my question is

(1) Why there is no equivalent exam for SQL Server 2000 ?
I mean like 70-019 for SQL Server 7.0.

(2) Will 70-019 get retired early next year (when a new
version of SQL Server gets released) ?

Thanks
chris

I asked these question to MS a few months ago and they said there was no
plan in the works to retire this exam. I recently was making the same
elective decision. (already certified for 7.0 but want to upgrade) In the
real world from what Ive read in job boards, data warehousing = lots of
programming. If thats your thing then cool. Also, the 7.0 and the 2000
versions of data warehousing are 2 totally different animals from what Ive
researched. So if you are in a 7.0 environment thats not going to upgrade
for a while you should be OK. But other than that it may be a waste.

just to add to chris's point - I asked the same question re the missing 2000
AS exam and was told no plans as "the products (7 and 2000) are not
sufficiently different to warrant a new exam"

I sent the 10 odd pages from "Whats new in SQL 2000" pertaining to AS but
got no reply ....
