Does anyone know whether an elective exam in one certiifcation (e.g. MCDBA)
can be counted in another certification (MCSA)? Thanks

As answered in fourteen other threads in this newsgroup - yes.

Yes.
There is a big overlap between the two certs.

Is there a matrix (or some other display) that shows which exams
apply to which certs? I am envisioning something that makes it
EASY to see which exams can be applied to more than one cert.

I am not aware of such a matrix, but it isn't too difficult to looks at each
of the certifications and notice which exams apply to both.

Try the Microsoft MCP site, in the public area. Also check the Training and
Certification site. URL below:
http://www.microsoft.com/traincert/mcp/default.asp

Pay attention to "Core" for cross certs.
