browser home page problem
|
|
|
| This just started happening the other day. My browser home page started
re-setting itself to some search page: your-search.cc
I reset the home page back to what I normally have which is yahoo.com.
After about a day it will switch back to your-search.cc.
I've deleted all the cookies, temporary internet files, temp files and
history. But, it still is happening. Anyone know how to stop this? Do I
need to look to delete some script file on my system that might be causing
this?
Or is it something else? Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

| Download and run spyware removal programs like Spybot, Adware and CWS
Shredder (?). You've Benn
hijacked by spyware. You might also want to unload any such programs like
Kazaa (or most any P2P program),
DAP or whatever is the case. These programs are nice but the free versions
unfortunately make you agree to
have various spyware programs installed.

| There might be some files that are hidden. Try to choose the option to "show
all hidden files and folder"

The change is in the registry (the set of configurations/settings that
Windows uses). Now you can really mess up your system if you don't know
what you are doing. So, I would suggest using another program to clean
it up. Run Ad ware - http://www.lavasoftusa.com/ (click on download for
the free version), and Spybot search and destroy -
http://www.safer-networking.org/. Hopefully this will clean it up.

| I would suggest doing what David and James suggested. About two weeks
ago I had the same problem. Do you run your anti-virus scanner
regularly, and keep it up to date as well?

| Thanks for all your help and suggestions. I used spybot, registry mechanic,
easy cleaner and spider HD cleaner. So, I'm hoping that took care of the
problem? I'll see in about a day if it did? Thanks again.
