Author How to remove 98SE on C: partition on a dual boot 98/2000 setup?

I have a computer dual booting windows 98SE and 2000 Pro.
98 is on C: and 2000 is on D:. The C: partition is corrupted, when I go to
reinstall 98 it hangs at 'configuring hardware' part of the installation.
I'm trying to keep 2000 on the hard drive, just want to format/clean the C
partition.
I have tried cloning 2000 with Ghost to a separate hard drive but then it
won't boot from it after being properly configured. I keep getting a 'press
any key to reboot' during the boot up process. I understand that this is
probably due to the fact im cloning a D partition to a C partition and may
not work.
When doing a Speed Disk on the original hard drive it shows a lot of 'data
that cannot be moved' for the C partition but the D is fine.
I'm at a roadblock here, everyone I ask have never ran into this situation
as most ppl don't dual boot in the first place.
What I would like to end up doing is to get the 2000 partition (D) moved
into the C partition, while keeping data intact, with no other OS's on the
drive anymore.
Any help and insight would be greatly appreciated.
TIA

Well, if this is anything like my recent experience with a dual boot of 98
and XP, even after restoring a ghost image to the partition you STILL may
have to do a "repair/install". This is because the critical booting
files(like boot.ini)may not get transferred to the drive.
