going to take the a+ technician test sometime new year. i now have a
comptia a+ technician book that covers up to wind 2000, thinking its
good enough for the test except for the new material covered on the
test that came out in nov. where do i get this info. also , which
testing center is the best , i notice that comptia uses 2 .

i am good in hardware and bad in operating system technology ,and most
of the tests i take i am scoring in the 70per cent range. i am good at
building computers, set up my network, formatting. all self learn, but
thinking quite a few here that took the test probably self taught
themselves.

also, is the test $145 total, or is this for each part of the test for
a total of 290. tell me about the test too if someone can????

There is no set curriculum for the A+ tests. Check out the 2003 objectives
at http://www.comptia.com/certification/A/objectives.asp. This should be
your study guide. There are a number of good books out there but they all
have their strengths and weaknesses.

The test and the cost is the same regardless of which testing center you
use. Use the one that is most convenient to your location. You may be able
to cut the cost a little by buying a voucher. I bought a voucher for the
Network+ test for $157 and it came with 1000 practice questions. The normal
cost for the test is $207. You just can't whine about saving $50. There
are a number of companies that sell vouchers, some of them advertise in this
newsgroup. I bought mine from www.examvouchers.com.

I think most of use are stronger in hardware than we are in the operating
systems--at least from the scores I've seen posted here. So put more study
time in getting ready for the OS portion of the test. Try and get your
hands on a few different operating systems to experiment with. I'd try and
get my practice scores above 80% before taking the real test.
