| I wonder if anyone can solve this one....
I have a amd athlon xp 2400, 512 ddr, 128mb geforce 4 etc. etc. and am
trying to burn cd's.....
the cdrw is a msi. I have tried loads of different s/ware packages to burn
audio cds but none of them will work.
I have checked that i have the latest aspi drivers but still, nothing works,
the programs "usually" get to about 4% and then either freeze or give me an
error msg along the lines of "drive not ready". i have tried closing all
other applications and the last thing i want to do is reinstall xp.
any ideas.......

| You might try slowing the transfer rate down to 4x or lower. Or,
make an image of the CD on your hard drive and then burn the disc.
It may also be a driver problem, or there's a problem running it on
XP. Check the MS hardware compatibility list.

Bad CD/RW drive - probably. XP doesn't have any of the issues Win98 had
with DMA and CD/RW drives so basically you plug it in and it works.
Unless the drive is bad. I've had two SONY 32x CD/RWs' go bad and they
both gave the same 'drive not ready' message. And, I had to restart the
system to get the CD out of the drive. Or possibly the IDE cable isn't
seated properly. Or maybe it's a virus - anti-exe used to cause the IDE
controllers to go into compatibility mode.
NRJ
One more question, did you look at any of the CD-Rs to see if anything
was written on them - I mean physically look at the disk to see if the
dye was changed? You may find that they are all still blank - same thing
happened with the SONY drives, as if the lasers were dead. Good luck.
