FAT that is...

1.) Which one creates the FAT table, and which one writes to or on it?
FDISK or partitioning

2.) In order for a partition to be FAT32, which must be true? I need a
504MB partition OR do I need a 2.1GB partition at least?

2.b.)Say I'm running WIn95 FAT16 vers. only, can i convert it to FAT32? Why
would I?

3.) Win2k uses NTFS. Is this FAT16 or FAT32? I hear NTFS doesnt see FAT32,
becuz its based on old NT. TRUE?

THANK YOU...

Invalid question. FDISK is a program that partitions the HDD

Invalid question. You can put a FAT32 partition on either size drive.

Win95b and above can go to FAT32. FAT32 is a better scheme because you
can see larger drives.

Invalid question, and totally untrue. NTFS is niether FAT16 nor FAT32- it
is NTFS. NTFS can see most any other partition scheme. FAT16 or FAT32
cannot see NTFS drives.

Check this http://www.storagereview.com/guide2...d/file/fat.html

It should answer all your questions.

Right indeed...

I think there is a limit at the smaller end, though? I can't remember
what it is...if I am right.

You also can use smaller allocation units, which results in more
useful HDD space on any given size drive, I think.

They can with third-party utilities, though. I haven't used these for
awhile, but a few years ago I used some utilities from

http://www.sysinternals.com

and/or

http://www.winternals.com

with a dual-boot NT4/W98 setup, and it worked well.

I believe that you are incorrect on item #2. FDISK won't support FAT32
on a drive under 512 Megs. It can be done (with partition magic, for
example), but not with FDISK and Format as supplied by Microsoft.

#2 does not ask if FDISK can do it...

Yes, you can, provided you know the proper switch. (by the way, format has
nothing to do with it, FDISK sets the partition type). If you can't figure
it out I'll tell you the switch later. Pffbt~~!
