| I got the a new mb -asus a7v8x there seems to be a problem with the
game
port. The port is a plug in connector. Windows thinks the joystick is
hooked up
wrong or missing. (The joystick has worked in the system before the
upgrade). I
reloaded the drivers, removed and let win xp find it. it did but it does
not work. Any
ideas?
I stopped by the store today and told them my problem, They suggested a
new sound card. I disabled the mb sound installed and I have the same
problem.
Thanks

| what was your old motherboard and CPU? Under Windows XP you can not just
switch motherboards unless they are identical models

| Did you ever bother to install the chipset drivers? According to
http://usa.asus.com/products/mb/soc...x/overview.htm, this motherboard
uses the Via KT400 chipset. You need to download and install their Via
chipset driver suite (the download might be a later version that whatever
you got on a static CD with the motherboard). You could go to
http://www.asus.com/support/downloa...ModelName=A7V8X and click on
the Utilities tab (for version 4.42 of the Via 4-in-1 driver set), or go to
http://www.viaarena.com/.

| Thanks, I knew the joy worked before on xp , so I am ruling it out for now. I
did switch brands of boards and reloaded xp(home) . I will look into the new
drivers ,the joy seems to work mostly with the verticle axis if this means
anything?

| Make sure that the cable from the joystick connector to the soundcard is
correctly seated AND correctly oriented. You might be off by one set of
pins, or flipped end-for-end. A similar thing happened to me with my HD
cable when I did some rearranging, and it took a minute and a good
flashlight to see what happened!

| I looked at that first ,the cable to the game port can only go one way. But I
still think it might be wired up wrong from the factory. Pin 1 (red stripe)
does not line up with what I think is maked pin one on the MB. The drealer did
not think this was possible, but I did not have the cable with me at the time.
Drivers were up dated also ..........Still looking ......

| I've got the same problem on the same MB.
When I want to configure the gamepad, an error occurs saying I don't have connected the pad, which is surely not true! |
