Need to get into the bios to setup after replacing battery. Any suggestions
on the correct keystokes.
have tried all the usual ones.

| What kind of computer is it? Does it tell you the maker of the BIOS
anywhere?
Some general suggestions would be ctrl+alt+esc, del, or F1.

Hmmm... You might be in a pickle here....
Press Control Shift and HELP simultaneously. This might get you into the
setup mode.
Keep in mind, some of the very old PCs did not have a SETUP built into the
mobo. Some of them required a special boot disk which had the SETUP
program on it.

| You can also try ctrl - s, that seemed to work on some of the older
machines.

I have no idea how to get into the setup of a Wang, but I'd sure love to get
my hands on that computer. :-)
| |
|
| removing RAM might force a checksum error

Some 286's, I think, still required a setup diskette; no CMOS. My
memory may not be correct on this.

Sometimes, I work with older computers, and sometimes finding the files =
needed is beyond difficult.
I recently set up a computer for one of the Nun's at my childrens =
school. It's your basic 286 running DOS and Professional Write (a super =
word processor that never made the jump to Windows).
The computer is a Wang Laboratories PC240-3.. a 286 that has a number of =
unique quirks.
The big problem is that this computer does not have a setup program in =
BIOS, and if you need to change any of the settings, you need a program =
called setup.com that is unavailable anywhere on the web. I had to =
re-set the setting when the backup battery (7 years old) went dead. =
Finding the file involved tearing the machine apart, moving the Hard =
Drive and it's controller over to another antique (of the 486 variety) =
and salvaging the file from the Hard Drive.
Well, if you have one of these beasts (a Wang 240-3) and need the =
file... here it is..

See if you can get such a file off the HD
AS a last resort - it might still work

lol, thanks anyway :-)
The reason I'd love the wang computer is 'cause I used to work on Wall
street some years ago (in some very lowly position), and Wang workstations
ran that place. :-)
I bet that system is actually a collectors item, or maybe it's just me that
thinks so..................
Back then I spent 5 grand for a 286, lol
Damn, I love computers........... :-))
