| Have a 625MB AVI, tried to burn as VCD with Nero but get "not enough room"
message with a 700MB CDR. How much overhead does Nero need and why did it
go through the rather lengthy conversion process before telling me?

| The AVI file may only be 625MB's, but how many minutes long is it? Different
formats, such as vcd's and SVCD's can only be x amount of minutes long to
fit on a CD-R. For example, I think an SVCD can only be around 40 minutes
long to fit on a 700MB CD, and a VCD about 60 minutes. When creating these
type of CD's you need to take into account the time as well as the file
size.
You can go to http://www.vcdhelp.com/ for a much better and detailed
explanation of how to do what you want.

The problem you are having is that an .avi file is not VCD format. The
"rather lengthy conversion" is NERO converting the file to a VCD
compatible format. Once the conversion is complete, the VCD file must
be too large to fit on the disk.
Some .avi formats, such as DivX, can be very small files compared to
their VCD equivalent. I have converted a 200 MB DivX to VCD and ended
up with over 600 MB - three times larger!.

| You need to convert your avi to mpeg1 then burn it as VCD. (.dat)
AVI's are usally a lot smaller than mpeg files... also try VCDeasy program
instead of NERO.
cheers.
