Taking the test, A+ Core, next monday
|

| Hi all,
I'm going to take the test next monday, june 2nd. So far I answered 450
questions... with an average rate of 89% correct answers. But I'm still so
nervous. Do I really need to memorize all of the old CPU's? Meaning
clock-speed, vDC and so forth... Many of these CPU's are worn out years
ago... I know my Upgrading, troubleshooting, diagnosticing, maintenance and
problem-solveng techniques inside-out ( I got 100% correct on questions
relating to these topics). I even know how to ID SCSI units by their bits...
Priority of ID's and up to the 3rd octet...Memorized IRQ's, I/O and DMA's,
have a perfect (deep) understanding of CMOS, BIOS, and system ressources. I
got almost 12 yrs of HW experience (just as a hobby - never as a prof.), but
still I'm nervous. My hand written notes are 87 pages...
Does any of you have techniques how to memorize, the networking section af
the Core. What I mean is, cable types, connectors (I know the topology,
speeds and troubleshooting inside out).
Thanx for any help :-)
Regards:

| I just took and passed the A+ core about a week ago and I think I can set
aside some of your fears. First off, yes I had questions pertaining to
cpu's. I had 2-3 questions relating to what processors will fit what slot or
socket or what processor will readily upgrade from another processor. One
thing though that put me at ease was when I realized the night before that
to pass this test you only needed to score a 596 out of 1300. Yes, some
questions are weighted differently than others, but if your scoring 89% and
know the major areas of study then you should do just fine.

| Thanx for fast reply. It helped me, I'm not so nervous :-) I forgot to tell
you, since English is not my primary language, the test center will add 30
minuttes, which gives me time to read all questions carefully... Many of the
wrong answers i chose, came from reading in a little hurry :-(
Again, thanx for your response.
With regards to all in NG

| Hi Rene
Just wanted to tell you that I'm taking my test on the 28th of May--Wednesday--and I totally know what you mean about being terrified!!! Me too!! I took my A+ Core and wanted to tell you that as was mentioned already there were 2 or 3 questions on the test relating to which cpus would fit into which slot and the difference between L1 and L2 cache. I don't remember any specific questions except that they might have asked me, "Of the below processors which one is the fastest" I remember answering "Athlon" to one of the questions. I took that test about 6 months ago and am going for the Operating systems one wednesday. I was tooo chicken to take at the same time. Hahahah!!
I HAVE A QUICK QUESTION TOO--that is driving me nuts. Do you know the minimum requirements for Win 98--I have 3 sources and they all are saying different numbers.
Onc says486DX/66 with 24 MB RAM
Second says 486DX/66 with 16 MB RAM
Third says 486SX/66 with 24 MB RAM
Anyway---Best of Luck!!!!!!! Let us knoW!!!
