Author A+,N+ after your names

I have noticed since i have been viewing this newsgroup that a lot of people
put their quals, A+, N+ etc after their names. Is this something you do in
the states or is it basically for the sake of others in the newsgroup, i`m
in the UK and unless i was a doctor or something i wouldn`t put the letters
after my name even though i passed my A+ last November.
Also the I.T industry is on it`s knees in the UK and i`m having to find work
in a different industry so i wouldn`t feel comfortable putting theletters
after my name, It isn`t really that well known in the UK either.
How is it viewed by an employer in the states ?
Or anywhere else in the world, please i am quite interested to find out.

Thanks

I think it is acceptable (even in the UK) to put the letters after your
name if you are doing business or technical correspondence. The reader
can then make assumptions about your qualifications when considering the
content of your letter.

However, like you I find it a bit presumptuous. I have never used my
"letters" in this NG. When writing technical correspondence, I will
sometimes include my qualifications and accomplishments, including my
certifications, in the body of the letter- if it is fitting.

When writing business correspondence, I will sign it with my name,
sometimes followed by "President", and then followed with my company name.

However, as much as you and I find letters "uncomfortable", it is still
acceptable.

Now, as far as finding work in another field, I think the letters would
not be appropriate outside the IT industry.

Yes, the entire IT industry is in the crapper right now. We slowed to a
near dead standstill about 2 months ago. I am trying not to lay off
employees, but it looks like it might come to that if work does not pick
up very soon! The work that is coming in does not pay the bills or pay
for payroll right now.

Good luck in your job search.

I use them when it is work type related, or where the certs need to be
known. Other than that, I don't even wear my cute little lapel pin.

MS gives a pin, Comptia only gives a lousy piece of paper and a cheesy
plactic card.

Cheers for the feedback everyone,
Regardless of our current industry i think i will continue to self study the
MCP/MCSE track, I don`t think i will be inserting the letters after my name
though, but you have got me wanting one of them pins now !!!!!!!

Cheers

Actually I got three of them, two say Microsoft certified Professional, and
one says Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer. The two MCP's are because
the first packet MS sent me, had my name misspelled, and so when I called
them and told them, they sent me a whole new packet.

I am proud of my plastic card and piece of paper. I know right where they
are in my basement underneath some paint buckets.
