Web Browsers won't Browse

| I am working on a Compaq Presario 5304 with Win 98 SE. The modem will
connect to the internet sevice and it will let the updates from the sevice
update. The problem is no web browser I try will bring up a web page. The
security settings are set to default and it doesn't have a firewall so I am
wondering why the browsers will not browse. I have used the compuserve that
is in it that is already set up by the Owner of the PC. When I try to
refresh the page it gives me the error messageWCS caused an invalid page
fault at module number JSCRIPT.DLL. I have tried to set
up AOL but when it comes to retrieving my account info it always give me an
error message. I have also tried to install Earthlink but the same thing
happens different error messages but the same problem. These accounts are
active becuase I run them on my computer. I hope someone out there can help
me or direct me to someone who can.

| Hello Zoe:
Have you tried installing a newer version of IE? Does the computer have
a firewall on it? Have you tried a Windows reinstall?
Those are the things I would look at.

| No it does not have a firewall. I tried uninstalling IE 6 to put in a older
vesion to see if that was it, that was IE 4, then I tried installing IE 5.5
still doesn't work. I upgraded Windows from Win98 to Win 98 SE. Same problem
The reinstall was my next guess.I was afraid of losing the modem driver. But
if it is not something else I will reinstall Windows
The Computer has had a RAM chip added I was wondering if that that could
be it because it sparadically gives me other error messages. I can't
remember exacly what they are but if it does it again I will let you know.
I'll appreciate any help you can give me.

| I've tried another web page, still doesn't work. I guess I will have to
reinstall Window if there is no other solution.

| Hello Zoe:
You are on the right track. Reinstalling Windows would be the next
logical step.

Well Zoe,sometimes these service updates from internet service providers
are just a bunch of advertising. Opt out of installing them,it should'nt
hurt.I'm thinking that the "WCS" in your error message stands for something
like "W-something Compu Serve". You should try to track that program down
and figure out what it is.I've never seen that before and I'm absolutely
certain that it is not necessary.AOL has put out some buggy software in the
past and i'm sure other companies have too.I'm thinking that you might have
a corrupt installation of internet explorer. You might be able to fix this
by going to the startmenu-control panel -add/remove programs applet.Try
uninstalling internet explorer,it should give you the option to repair it.
You could also try going to the run menu in start menu, type in"sfc" then
hit the enter key.sfg stands for systen file checker.it will scan for some
files that could be corrupt, but not all. Also try not to bog your computer
down with all these computers that load at startup, try hitting the ctrl-
alt-del keys altogether at the same time, a box should pop up showing all
the running processes. There only needs to be two for the computer to
function, systray and explorer, maybe 2 or 3 more while your running your web
browser, unless you have some exotic hardware.tell us what happens
