| Hello Again
Am contemplating setting up a dual boot, off of 2 hard drives, of Windows 98
and 2000.
Is this possible, or do they have to be on the same HD?
I'll putz around with this, it's not an urgent need, but if anyone out there
has any recommended links/info, I'd be happy to see it.

| No problem so long as Win98 is installed first. Just set your BIOS to boot
from the Win2K CD and format and install to your second drive. You will
have to decide whether to format as FAT32 or NTFS. If NTFS Win2K can "see"
your Win98 partition but not vice-versa.

| And????? the bootloader for Windows 2000 is intelligent enough to handle
that so why spend money for nothing?

| You really only need something extra if you want to boot like 4 or 5
operating systems. I have Windows Me, Win2K and RH Linux on my machine and
they run just fine. I installed them in that order as well. WinME was the
OS the machine came with. 2 hard drives and 7 partitions, I forget off
hand. WinME on the first Hard drive which is one partition. Win2k on
primary partition on second hard drive, Linux on a logical drive in the
extended partition of the second hard drive. When possible just use the
KISS method. Keep it simple stupid.

| Thanks to all who have replied. A little more detail:
1) Both drives already have the OSs installed. It wouldn't be that big a
deal to reformat/reinstall the 2000 disk, but I don't really have that
liberty with the '98 disk. And, the only way that I've been able to
successfully install 2000 onto its disk is by installing '98 and then
installing 2000 as an upgrade, on top of it.
2) Both are FAT 32.
3) Although I'm familiar with the concept of dual-booting, I've never
actually set it up, and would like to have entry-level instructions in front
of me, before I even try. I know that I must have a book somewhere in my
bookpile that describes this process, and I will find it before I begin, but
I am really looking for first-hand recommendations from people who have more
experience than do I 
And, I definitely do appreciate the concept o KISS!

| Install your Win98 drive first as C:. Let it work out any configuration (if
in a diff. box). Attach the Win2000 drive and run a repair from the CD. This
should build the boot loader for dual booting on to the C: (Win98)
directory.
Or better yet, do the clean install from CD for Win 2000 (after setting up
Win98).
Piece of cake.
The fun is patching in an older OS after the newer has been installed.
