| Hey!
I don't know a whole lot about computers, more than most of my friends and
family, but certainly not as good as you folks here.
I asked on another newsgroup (three of them, in fact) where i could find a
site, book, course, etc. to learn about computers, mostly for personal
understanding, but also for college. They recommended I look into A+
certification.
So now I've been looking at various online courses, books, newsgroups, and I'm
wondering:
1) What do all these certifications mean? (ie. A+, Networks+, MCSE?, etc..)
2) What books, etc. would you recommend? (I was looking at one on Amazon by a
Michael Meyers i think it was, and it seemed to be getting some really amazing
reviews... 4th Edition of Something..)
3) What other advice could you give a newbie like me?

| Yes, the A+ 4th edition by Mike Meyers is the book you want to buy. A+
means that you are a certified pc technician with about experience of 6
months. Network+ certifies your knowledge of basic networking and setting
up networks. It shows about 9 months of experience. MCSE is a Microsoft
Certified Systems Engineer. This is a focused cert towards a specific
company. The other 2 certs and vendor neutral. There are also Cisco certs,
such as CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) and CCNP (Cisco Certified
Network Professional) The CCNA and Network+ are one exam. The A+ is 2
exams. MCSE is about 6 or 7 exams I don't remember the exact amount. If
