| I came across this employment opportunities page recently on a computer
store's web site. Note what it says about "certification papers". I don't
mind someone telling me I need 2 years experience to qualify for a job, but
these jerks are basically saying they consider certifications worthless.

I see ads like that from time to time and the author of that job listing is
no doubt bitter about something relating to certifications. Hell, I once
saw an ad on Monster that said "MCSE's need not apply." Almost as if being
certified was equivalent to being branded with a scarlett letter on your
forehead.
You don't want to work for anyone like that. Skip it...

| LOL | |
|
| I think what that ad means more than anything is that they value experience
over certification. Personally I think along those lines myself after many
years in the hospitality industry. I used to get young chefs come from
trade school with more certs than I will ever have and I wouldn't trust them
to boil an egg. My standard comment was Wow - you have great
certifications, now you start to actually learn your job.

| I wouldn't apply simply because of the several easily correctable
grammatical errors on the site. The site itself doesn't look very
professional and their grammer looks very unprofessional. No dought they
would throw a resume with poor grammer or spelling in the trash but they
don't make the effort on thier site.

| Hey Tim,
One thing that I have seen in the near past, the certs get you the
interview, your experience gets you the job. I agree with SBFan, the site
is very unprofessional, and it looks like some guys got together and started
this business. They probably figured that they could install a keyboard, so
start their own business... Once they figured they could install ram, they
were good to go... LOL
Chances are, they got some really good tech in there, and showed them how
little they knew. Now they have that 'bad taste' in their mouth...
On the other side of the coin, I agree with Russ. Please, all, do not take
this the wrong way... but certs do not AUTOMATICALLY make you a pc god. I
work in industrial trades and I have worked with guys that just got out of
school with electrical... I still wouldn't trust them to play with 3 phase
480 VAC. It's a learning process, no different in electrical as it is in
the pc world. In my example, it's great that they know the theory of 3
phase, etc.. but I still like to make sure that they are being safe.
Nothing beats real world experience.
Also, read a bit about certifications. They were originally setup to
'gauge' a person's experience. It gave employers an idea of what 'level'
your knowledge went to. Over time, MCSE hit the market, and it was more of
a training then a gauge. Since then, it's metamorphasized into all sorts of
definitions...
(putting soap box away...)

| YES, I screwed up, I didn't proof read! I have always had trouble with
typing incorrectly even though its right in my head. I would have been more
careful if I knew this group was so picky! I normally don't proofread
e-mails and postings unless their something important, like a job
application!
Sorry,
Glenn

Glenn....
In the words of Foghorn Leghorn, "It's a joke son, it's a joke!" No
harm intended....just a little "good-natured ribbing". Don't take it
so seriously.

As a very friendly FYI, when doing a job application, I would suggest that
you have someone else proof read your writings.
In the above, you probably meant that you have trouble typing correctly.
None of us has any trouble typing incorrectly. You also meant to say
"unless they're something important" rather than "their something
important".
Add all of our inabilities on top of dyslexia of the fingers and some pretty
comical posts are composed.
