Re: CPU or Motherboard? Update
|
|
|
| I have an update.
The power supply works and i tried mine as well. The CPU fan spins and there
are lights on the front of the case. No lights appear on the drives and
these do not open. There are no post sounds, and there were originally when
it worked. I even removed the memory to provoke a POST error. But nothing.
The motherboard is a FIC AZ31 and it is running a 1.3 Athlon apparently.
Does this help?
Many thanks
Darren

| ONly because you were not completely clear- did you swap the PSU out with
a known good PSU?
Do not take the fact that the fan spins and the lights light to assume the
PSU is functioning. If is not throwing out the right voltage on all the
legs, it is not functioning properly- even though you could get lights and
fans.

| Bit of a tough one, I would lean towards CPU if you are sure it isn't a
power supply issue, but would do a bit mor e troubleshooting first.
Have you removed any add-on cards and tried to boot?
Have you unplugged power and ide cable to the drives and tried to boot.
Eliminate as much as you can out of the equation, unplug the drives, remove
addon cards, (except video of course, but do make sure the video card is
seated well) try and boot.
You can also try unplugging the comp and popping the CMOS battery out for a
few minutes, stick the battery back in and try and boot. (on that note, has
the customer been attempting overclocking?)
Just one, I already mentioned add-on cards, but wanted to add I have seen
modems fail and cause the exact symptoms you describe more than once.

| The power supply i tried is working. I took out the modem and tried to boot.
I removed the battery and replaced it again. The video is onboard.
Many thanks
