CPU or Motherboard?
|
|
|
| Your guys help with this one would be appreciated.
A friend of mine has Compaq 5000 running WinXP. Last saturday the computer
started rebooting itself at intervals.
This started occuring more frequently until the point it wouldnt even start
up and all there was was a light on the case. No drives would open. She
telephone the Compaq help line who told her it could either be the CPU or
the motherboard.
Any ideas working it which if you think it could be that at all.
Many thanks
Darren

| Compaq's right it could be either!! Does it run the memory test and then
freeze or does it not power on at all. If it freezes right after the memory
test I would say its the CPU but it still could be either. My suggestion,
(if its not under warranty) is to replace Motherboard, CPU and Memory with
faster hardware. Something like this is a great excuse to upgrade!!! :-)

| Sorry, I misunderstood, I incorrectly understood that you had replaced the
power supply. A problem like you described should always point you to the
power supply first, if you indeed haven't replaced it, if you have then my
other post stands. :-)

| This does not sound like the CPU or the motherboard, It sounds like the power
supply. I would check there first.

| It ssounds like your power supply. I have had a similar problem and had to replace my power supply and everything works now.
