| Hi, I'm about to buy a new system for myself and I was going to go for a
2800 Athlon XP. However, I found I can get a AMD 64 3000 (not FX) for
roughly about $120 more. Question is it worth it? It comes with Windows XP
and the best information I can find is that Microsoft won't release Windows
XP 64 bit version until 1st quarter of 2004. Then, there likely won't be
many applications or games that were 64-bit for even more time.
Also, if I recall right, when the Pentium 60 first came out ages ago, many
people rushed to get it. But it had overheating problems and other issues
which Intel corrected later. So the thing is, for the money it seems like a
good deal to get an AMD 64...but is it really?
Ideally, I'd wait to buy a new system for several months until Intel
releases it's 64-bit version for the price to drop as well to wait for
Windows XP 64 bit version to be bundled with it. However, I'm guessing that
might take from 3-6 months to happen and I need a new faster system now. So
what do you think I should do? What would you do in the same spot? Thanks
in advance.
