Hi,

What is the website where you can enter IP address and get info of the
person/pc that it belongs to. Something like whois something.

www.samspade.org They also have a program that you can d/l and use as
well; check out the link to Sam Spade for Windows.

Exactly that, infact.

Windows, however, doesn't ship with a whois client. Not that these
don't exist (they just involve connecting to TCP port 43 and sending a
text string ending CRLF, so you might be able to:-
telnet whois.arin.net 43
type the IP address, and hit RETURN
(if you can stand using Win98's horrid telnet application; win2k+ is
better)

Various web services, such as http://shois.net, http://samspade.org, and
http://www.demon.net/external/ for example provide ways to use the query
tools that windows is lacking.

To look up IP addresses, you need to query the right servers. IP
Addresses are handed out by various regional registries, some of which
block access to their whois data via some of the web pages mentioned
above, but virtually all of which provide their own search facilities at
their sites.

American region (North america) IP's are handled by whois.arin.net -
http://www.arin.net
Latin American IP's are handled by LACNIC whois.lacnic.net (?)
http://www.lacnic.net
European IP's by RIPE - whois.ripe.net http://www.ripe.net
Asia/Pacific (incl Australia) by APNIC - whois.apnic.net
http://www.apnic.net

Some countries have their own sub-registries, for instance korea
(KRNIC), you should be able to guess the site names by now) and japan
(JPNIC).

In general, querying ARIN will point you to the right registry if it's
not US based.

After a while, you'll probably start to recognise certain netblocks, for
instance 200.*.*.* is LACNIC (and probably firewalled off by many sites
as most of Latin America seems to be a haven for spammers (see also Korea))
