I have been asked to help someone whose system is running amok with symptoms
that smell of a virus. Unfortunately his Norton Anti Virus isn't up to date
and isnt dealing with the culprit. Now he cant get online to update the
definitions etc. Is there a small anti virus utility that I can dowload here
and take over there and either run from disk or install

Frank

are you saying that i download either the Intelligent Updater File i32 or
x86, and use the appropriate one as explained in the file update.txt at the
bottom of the page, depending on his version of NAV and his Win OS version,
copy it onto his hard drive and run it ?
thanks

If you click on the first one in the list the one in this case that is
20031210-008-i32.exe December 10, 2003 4.21MB in size it will download
and the exe file can be ran on any version of norton AV and any OS. See
attachment.

Ok, I take your word for it ( to use the - i32.exe file rather than the -
x86.exe file) but I'm not sure I see why exactly.

Thanks for pointing out this simple and elegant solution to the problem

Try the Ultimate Boot Disk - a great set of tools.

I created a boot-cd using the files from the boot image on the Norton
Antivirus cd and adding the latest definitions after updating. The boot
image on the cd contains a dos version of Norton Antivirus that accepts the
definition files and will clean or delete infected files.
