Author A+ Passed Both Tests

Passed both tests. They were much harder than any practice tests that I had,
in both wording and content. I was scoring 800-900 on all my practice exams
before I took it, but passed OS with a 607 and Core with a 690. I keep
reading everyone elses' passing posts with their rocking scores and am
wondering if I took the same test!

I have been in IT support/computer repair since late 1999, and studied my
behind off with Mike Meyers A+ all in one book as well as his A+ Passport. I
read both books, reviewed them many times and repeatedly took every practice
tests that came with the books as well as any others I could get my hands
on. CoursePrep Certification questions were a great help, which a friend
loaned me from her study materials.

My point is that I was well prepared, and am so glad that I studied as hard
as I did. I get a tad nervous about tests, but I settled down pretty quick
and do not believe that effected my ability as much as the fact that I just
got some obscure questions that were not really addressed in any of the
study materials that I had. A co-worker here who is an MCSE says it's the
luck of the draw as far as the difficulty of the questions go and that I
must have just gotten hard stuff by luck. Ha!

First off, congratulations on passing. As I pointed out in my post
here yesterday, I do believe there are a pool of questions and
different people get different questions. I guess it's possible that
you got "unlucky" and got a lot of the harder ones.

As far as practice tests go, I had quite a few different practice
tests that I did over and over. What I found out is I got so used to
the questions, I could answer them without even reading the whole
question after going through them for about the third or fourth time.
So that tended to give me "false" scores on the practice tests as it
was just memory of the questions at that point, and not so much
knowledge of the material.

Congrats on the pass, I also finished my testing yesterday, and also studied
with the Mike Meyers book, back in September scored an 837 on hardware exam
but yesterday got a 673 on the operating exam, was hoping to do a little
better but a pass is a pass. As far as some people getting differnt
questions than other test takers i dont know too much about but to me it
seemed like there were quite a few questions on the OS test that were not
covered in the book, but for the Hardware exam i thought the book covered
everything pretty well. Guess maybe i needed more study materials for OS.

I had a similar experience, except I ended up failing my OS test by a few
points the first time. I was determined the second time not to waste my money
because I felt I knew the material so I memorized braindumps and easily passed
the second time around. I still didn't get anywhere near a perfect score
though. I tend over-think a lot of questions, my memory gets jogged to some
obscure experience I had fixing some esoteric computer problem in the past that
ultimately doesn't have anything to do with the answer the test is looking
for.

In any case, we passed, that's all that matters. I wouldn't recommend
memorizing braindumps to someone with little experience with computers - I've
seen some ridiculously dumb questions being asked by newly certified people on
this newsgroup, but they're not even always the ones who memorized braindumps!
I have no idea how some people manage to use intuition to pass multiple-choice
exams more effectively than I typically do, but I do know that the amount we
know about the working of the human mind makes for a very incomplete picture.
