Comptia Exam Pricing

| Can anyone advise me as to how the pricing works for Comptia exams? I am
used to paying a flat rate for MS exams regardless of exam. Looking at the
Vue web site there is a large list of exams that sound like the same papers?
what does it all mean? do they all earn you just the A+ certification?
220-221: A+ 2001 Adaptive Core Hardware Exam - GBP 100.00
220-222: A+ 2001 Adaptive OS Technologies Exam - GBP 100.00
220-231: A+ 2001 Linear Core Hardware Exam - GBP 100.00
220-232: A+ 2001 Linear OS Technologies Exam - GBP 100.00
220-301: A+ 2003 Adaptive Core Hardware Exam - GBP 100.00
220-302: A+ 2003 Adaptive OS Technologies Exam - GBP 100.00
CR0-231: OCR A+ 2001 Linear Core Hardware Exam - GBP 55.00
CR0-232: OCR A+ 2001 Linear OS Technologies Exam - GBP 55.00
CR0-301: OCR A+ 2003 Linear Core Hardware Exam - GBP 55.00
CR0-302: OCR A+ 2003 Linear OS Technologies Exam - GBP 55.00
JK0-221: JOBS+ A+ 2001 Adaptive Core Hardware Exam - GBP 55.00
JK0-222: JOBS+ A+ 2001 Adaptive OS Technologies Exam - GBP 55.00
JK0-231: JOBS+ A+ 2001 Linear Core Hardware Exam - GBP 55.00
JK0-232: JOBS+ A+ 2001 Linear OS Technologies Exam - GBP 55.00
JK0-301: E2C/JOBS+ A+ 2003 Linear Core Hardware Exam - GBP 55.00
JK0-302: E2C/JOBS+ A+ 2003 Linear OS Technologies Exam - GBP 55.00

| Hi Jeff,
Interesting List! I think I can help sort some of it out:
1) Ignore all the ones that are "CRO" and "JKO." For the JKO it's only
for participants in their Jobs+ program (a pilot internship thing) --
those participating get that discount. I suspect that other "CRO" is
the discount for member companies, although it could be another
"jobs+" like program. In either case, you'd probably need to enter
some sort of code to prove you're eligble for either of these
discounts.
2) For the others:
a) the first two (221, 222) are useless -- these exams have already
been retired (adaptive version of the 2001 objectives). Not sure while
they're still in the database. You could try to register for them, but
I suspect that you'd get a call from the testing center (or someone)
letting you know they're no longer available.
b) the fifth and sixth are for the NEW 2003 objectives and will not be
released until Nov. 26. You may be able to register for them now, but
I suspect that the registration would be invalid unless you make it
for *on or after* that official launch date. (BTW -- No idea why it
says they're adaptive! CompTIA has gone on record to say that they're
absolutely NOT going to have the 2003 ones adaptive, ever:

c) That leaves three and four: 231 and 232. These are the current
exams: 2001 objectives, linear format. If you plan to take the exams
*before* Nov. 26, these are the ones to register for. They will retire
the day the 2003 exams are released, so any registrations for after
Nov. 26 would probably need to be rescheduled.
The following link is to a news page containing some background on
what's happening with the latest A+ exam changes:

Hope that helps some!

| Thanks for clearing that up for me, how come exams such as Network+ cost
more than the A+? is it a longer exam? the Comptia exams seem very short
the last MS exam I did I was given 240 minutes to complete it and had 50
long and mind numbing questions! and it cost me £88.00
Can someone also explain why if become some sort of Comptia member my exams
cost less? how much does this membership cost and is it only Corporate
membership? is it worth while?
Many Thanks
Jeff
