I'm not even sure if this will work, but I want to put an old hard drive from
my old 486DX into my Athlon 1.1GHz. I want to keep all the files that are on
the old drive and be able to choose each time I start up my computer to either
boot from my current hard drive or the old one. The reason I want to do this
is because I have some old games that only run in real DOS (which the old hard
drive has) and I don't want to have two computers set up in the same room.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Partition Magic 8.0 would help you as far as creating the dual booting
system you want. The question, however, is what sort of condition the old
drive is and how long it can last. It's certainly going to get a heavier
workout with the newer processor. To be on the safe side, I'd certainly
recommend creating a backup with a utility like Symantec's Ghost
imaging(which I've been very satisfied with). This way, if the old drive
fails, you can then then transfer the backups onto the newer drive(which
itself should also be backed up).

I would copy the CONTENTS of the old hard drive to the new drive, either
in a folder or a partition, but not use the physical drive. If you are
running W98, you don't need dual boot, if you are running XP, it's
fairly easy to setup MS-DOS and XP dual boot in the same partition as
long as the C: partition is FAT32 and not NTFS.
