Please, I need help & clarification.

I've been reading Meyer's book that says you can "enable Desktop to load active
web pages directly. Why bother opening a browser..."

MY ISP is AOL. I tried to access Internet Explorer on my Windows2000 PC, but
(immediately) became hopelessly lost.

Could someone help me?
