Author I Passed!

Took the exams consecutively yesterday and spent about five minutes on
each. Got a 873 on the Core and 975 on the OS. 20 questions each.

Be warned: The OS exam has a LOT of WinNT questions. I'd say of the
twenty questions on the OS, 2 were Win2000, 3 were Win9x, and 15 were WinNT.
I talked to a few other techs afterwards and they all agreed there were a
lot of NT questions. I used the Mike Meyer's 4th edition to brush up before
the exam and didn't remember there being much on NT. I looked back in it
and couldn't find much on NT. So be warned! And good luck!

That's why the "Essential Windows" pdf is available on the TotalSem
web site.

Didn't see anything really related to NT in there. The point I was making
was that if someone reads Meyer's book and thinks it's all they need to
pass, they're wrong. The amount of NT questions, for me, wasn't a problem
because I've used NT for years. I was simply trying to warn others. It
seems to me that if so many people say that their OS exams deal heavily with
NT, a good book covering the exam should deal somewhat with NT. I wasn't
trying to start a battle, just help others be prepared.

Doesn't Meyers imply (or perhaps even directly state) that W2K is close
enough to NT that if you understand W2K very well you should be able to
handle most of the NT questions? If this is not the case, I've got a lot
more work to do!

NT, 2000, and XP are all very similar, but the process you go through to
perform certain tasks are different. The end result is the same, but how
you do it is different. Take a repair disk for example: In NT, just type
rdisk at a run prompt, but in 2000, you have to go to the backup applet.
They do the same thing, but the way you do them is different.

Duly noted. My recollection of the contents of this was that NT was
covered unless otherwise noted. It actually states that 2000 is
covered unless otherwise noted. Interestingly enough, the OS blueprint
on CompTIA's site

http://www.comptia.com/certification/aplus/OS_exam.pdf

also has no mention of NT, except for NTLDR and NT boot issues, both
of which are basically applicable to 2000.

I tested 2 years ago, and there were few NT questions at that time, if
any, and I did the betas, over 200 questions. I am surprised that the
actual blueprint can't be trusted in this regard, unless the NT
questions are all concerned with aspects shared with its successor. It
is reported that up to 75% of the questions are for NT, and the
blueprint indicates nothing even close to that.
