Self-Study user preparing to take exams in mid-July ---->How current are
the questions on the exam? Hope this is a fair question...if not, i will
understand. Rather than spending $1500-$2000 on actual classes, i am
prepared to take the test several times.

Specifically, I got the newest Sybex A+ Complete book (copyright 2002) i
could find, but the CPU section indicates that was written in 1999 - so
nothing about Pentium 4 or newer AMD CPU's for example.

The OS part covers Win98 and 2000, but not Win/ME nor Win/XP. I have
built several PC's and worked on many others, using DOS, Win9x, and
Linux. Have not used Me or XP. so decided to spend a few weeks reading
the big book and see if i can pass the test.

You have the most recent book from Sybex for the current A+ exams. The exam
doesn't cover P4 processors or Windows XP but there are many hardware
questions and Windows 98, NT, and W2K questions.
The official exam objectives are located on the www.CompTIA.com web site
under the A+ exam FAQ and there are many helpful people in this group who
have recently taken the exam to help move you in the right direction. Good
luck.
