I wanted some input on when to take the test.I feel pretty confident
about the Core exam.I have been getting 90%+ on the 3 Mike Meyers
pratice tests.I`ve built a PC and installed many FRMs.I have a few
weak areas,SCSI,Serial port hand shaking.
I think I need some more study time for the OS exam.I get 70% on the
Meyers test.
I would like to get the Core test out of the way so I can
concentrate on the OS test.
So,people who passed the exams, what made you feel you were ready
for the tests?

Take the core exam to get it out of the way and concentrate on the OS I got
everything from WIN 3.1 to WIN NT and 2000 on my test.

I am going to Tech Skills. Their test prep stuff seems to be pretty
much on and I knew when I was ready. I was a little more nervous for
the OS than the Core (maybe cuz it was THE test that would certify me)
and I actually had a higher score on that.

As far as the practice tests, I found those to be kind of generic. I
don't know what other people charge for FULL test prep software (300+
questions) but I know the teaser software that comes with the book
isn't a very good gauge. I used Tech Skills' software and
Transcender's software and just new when I was ready. I followed Tech
Skills' plan but took another week just to make sure I passed. Didn't
hurt anything...

You are probably ready. Memorize common port I/O addresses, ALL the IRQs.

Good advice, but for what it's worth, I didn't have a single I/O
address or IRQ question on my hardware test. I was sweating the memory
map hex addresses and didn't have a single question on that either.

Good luck,
Doughboy

Gary,

Try taking a few "SkillDrill" tests at www.brainbuzz.com (they're free!!) I
found them to be the closest thing to what I actually saw on the exams.

I felt the same as you initially. But instead I took another's advice and
got up the courage to schedule BOTH tests back-to-back giving myself one
full week to study beforehand. For me the OS test was a little tougher, but
everyone's knowledge varies. Do several practice tests each day leading up
to exam day. Then schedule for an afternoon test, and spend the entire
morning just cramming. By then, YOU WILL BE READY!!!

Yes, I did see some weird questions on the exams, but read them carefully
and use the process of elimination.

Keep up the confidence...........if I could do it so can you!

Good Luck Gary, and keep us all posted!!

LAN Man, A+
