Hello, I just passed both of my A+ tests. I got an 819 on the core (took
about 15 minutes) and an 869 on the OS (took about 10 minutes). The Core
was harder than I expected it to be and the OS was easier than I expected to
be (maybe even easier than the Core).

One thing I'd been confused on was the sequence: I took the test, then my
score came up, then the survey. So you don't have to answer the survey to
see if you passed.

Since I am a cheapskate, I "over-prepared" because I didn't want to pay for
the test twice. So, I've used Mike Meyer's All-in-One, the Exam Cram, A+
Certification for Dummies flash cards, Cramsession, Self-Test software,
Heathkit, and freecomptia.com. Based on the tests, I think I'd have been
safe with Mike's book and freecomptia.com -- but the Self-Test software is
also very good at building skills and confidence.

I thought I'd share with you some of the mnemonics I used to prepare for the
core:

COM ports I remember as a table. First column: 1,2,3,4. Second column:
4,3,4,3. Third: 3,2,3,2. Fourth: F,F,E,E. Fifth: 8,8,8,8.
The first column is the port number, the second is the IRQ, and the 3rd,
4th, and 5th form the starting address.

"There's only one God, and only one heaven, and LPT1 uses IRQ 7."
"I have two hands with five fingers." LPT2 uses IRQ 5.

Tony Sivori previously posted a mnemonic for remembering POST error codes:

Mary's Rotten Karma Made Carl Forget Her.
Motherboard - series 100 error
Ram - series 200 error
Keyboard - series 300
Monochrome Video - series 400 error
Color Video - series 500 error
Floppy drive series 600 error
Hard drive - series 1700 error

With all this being said, I did not need any of these on the exams, but they
are good things to know.

Good luck to all the rest of you who are preparing.

Jason

Congratulations, and way to go, Jason. :-)

I didn't fill it out at all. After paying over $100 to take a 15 minute (or
less) test, I decided that if they want my demographic and personal data,
they can pay for it.

Glad to see that helped someone, even if it wasn't on the test.

Congrats! I felt the same way.

That's never happened to me, although I've never taken back-back tests.
