Thanks

KVM = keyboard, video, mouse. It is a device that allows you to use one
keyboard, monitor, and mouse on multiple computers. I use the Belkin
Omnicube. --- Steve

KVM stands for Keyboard, Video, Mouse. This is a type of switch you use in
order to access multiple computers through one keyboard, one monitor and one
mouse. Used mostly in large environments with "Server Farms" or even in
rack-mounted servers that share a single flat screen monitor and
mini-keyboard. From the computer you still need all three cables, but they
go to the back of the KVM switch. They are usually sold as 'bundled" cables.
Belkin makes nice ones.

This is related, although not directly a reference to cables.

Please note, you can purchase various types of KVM switches
(keyboard+mouse+monitor, printer+printer, monitor+monitor). Although
marketed as such, the later 2 may not be technically "KVM", but rather
"Data" transfer switches.

Also, you'll find two types of KVM switches. Manual, you physically turn the
knob to switch between monitors, printers, etc. Electronic or Auto, you can
set up hotkeys to switch on the fly (please correct me if I'm wrong, I've
never owned one of these).

They're definitely space savers, and mine has been trouble-free so far.

Close enough Vanis

I have both types at home. The switch type is on my workbench and is handy
when doing rebuilds - especially good when you need to transfer data to a
holding system while you rebuild the old one. The electronic KVM I have on
my test network where I have 5 boxes connected by a switch - I can not
imagine the space needed to have 5 monitors & keyboards ... lol
