| Hi all,
I have an old AT motherboard (ST-MGXM) w/ a Cyrix 233 Mhz. I need to add
memory to use the machine for experiments & labs. The documentation says
that it takes up to 128MB of 3.3v SDRAM only. First, can't I add more than
128MB. I thought you could add up to 4GB. Second, all of the SDRAM that
I've seen is rated either PC100 or PC133. Will they work on this old
Motherboard?

| You will probably find that PC100 will work ok. The limitation I would
think is your mobo - check to see if there is a BIOS update for it - most
older boards have them to allow more memory.

I have a question about this, also. My old A-Trend 5200 will support
384M, but only cache 128M. Can a BIOS upgrade get around this? The
reason I ask is that some versions of Windows use memory from the top
down, or so I have been told, and exceeding the cache's capability
will often lead to diminished performance due to Windows' basic
functions having to work with uncached RAM. Ideas?

| You are just going to have to try it. Modern SDRAM may or may not work.

| No, the limitation on cache is a hardware limitation in the chipset,
there's no way around that.
