| Hi,
I have Windows XP home edition installed in my laptop computer, the problem
is that every time I try to shut down the computer or go to standby mode, it
restarts.
The only way to turn it off is to unplug the battery, how could I solve this
problem without reinstalling Windows?
Thanks

You don't say what model it is so I can't say for sure but some possible
things to look for are driver problems with that particular laptop and look
in the power options and see what the options are there.
Without the particular model it's pretty much shooting in the dark.

Still need more. Toshiba is a brand name.
Here is what I would do if someone brought the computer in to me with that
problem.
I would go to Google and type in "Windows XP shutdown problem Toshiba Model
XXXXXX. 90% of the time an answer to the problem is in the first two or
three results.

| I tried disabling the "restart on system failure" feature and it worked out

I am more than familiar with this, and I wonder about it. What is
getting XP's knickers in a knot to have it crash so easily?
Alternatively, shouldn't there be something to record each event and
the nature of the crash, and if there is...what is it? This approach,
while it works, looks like a band-aid solution to me.
