OK so you are A+ certified. Are you planning on a new job? Or are you
moving on to Net+ or Cisco? Then where will you be?

I am hoping to find a new job, and just signed up for a Net+ class, to
augment my knowledge base and certification level.

HA HA HA HA

From A+ to cisco ha ha ha ha

Ok for those of you who are new to certs
you would prolly go with no EXP in the field something like this
A+ to Network+ and or start hitting your Microsoft certs if you don't want
the NET+ but for gods sake get the network+ cert
I wouldn't even bother telling someone with no experience to even buy a
cisco book till they had NETWORK+. Network+ is like A+ as far as basic
common sense knowledge but in networking concepts. Unless you are some Willy
Coyote SUPER GENIUS you would lag in your progression without the network+
work behind you.

As for Microsoft certs the progression seems to be workstation/pro then to
Server then to Advancedserver then what ever you feel the need to look
into?

Anyone doing or have done the linux+ cert?

It isn't impossible, and it isn't really laughable either.

Doesn't a proper preparation for the CCNA cover most of the Network+
anyway? I think the Cisco Academy program at least used to have a
person ready for the Network+ between 2/3 to 3/4 of the way through.

You are correct Tom
I would think that a person could almost (not quite) totally ignore PC's and
still have a future in networking
Although it would be difficult Network+ and CCNA might be the only certs you
would pursue
This presumes that one could get a job with only these certs and no
experience which I find unlikely in this market

I was laughing cause that is a mighty big leap. I forgot about CCNA <----
I always over look the (A ) administrator certs. I was thinking of CCNE( E )
engineer certs. Ignorence on my part.

And A CCNA would also be a natural progression from A+. However, I would
still argue that a person should get their Net+ also. In this case you can
work at both, due to the likeness of materials.

So lets think of the Admin certs here that would prove usefull.

CCNA Cisco admin
CNA Certified Novel Admin < Can't stand Novel but it still lives and is in
fact usefull title
MCSA Microsoft certified Sytems admin **** A + can be one of the electives
for this I think so you got 1 check box compleated
I personally could see someone with the above having a decent chance of a
job
Their alphabet soup would be ; CCNA CNA MCSA A+ NET+
However in todays job market you would still be hard pressed to land a cool
job.

SO don't forget to volunteer everywhere you can. Charities, Comunitee
Colleges...... ANYWHERE. And don't talk to the HR or staffing people in
these places unless the people you need are absolutely shielded from you.
At some charities you will REALLY get into the nitty gritty stuff cause of
the cast off machines they sometimes run.
