Are you trying to connect through Enterprise Manager?
Right click on the server name and select connect. It
usually saves the login id and password that is used to
connect. Hopefully the login is still valid.

Sometimes I can't connect on the first try.

I have tried that but no luck. I think that I can chase the problem back
to a domain name change. And I believe that the database is trying to
authenticate on the old domain. I have even tried logging in using the sa
account but that does not work. I really am not sure how to approach this
problem. This is compounded by not having a good backup of the transaction
log. the only blessing is that this domain is still under construction but I
really want to recover the database and transaction log.

and help would be great
