Author Cannot connect to server

When trying to connect to local server on my computer in
datalink from VisualStudio.Net or from Access XP I
repeatedly get the error message "Connection failed, SQL
State:'08001' SQL Server Error: 17 [DBNETLIB]
[ConnectionOpen(Connect()).]SQL does not exist or access
denied.

No servers or data connections show up in ServerExplorer,
what do I need to do to connect?

I have an icon in my systray that say's "Running-
\\jimmagee\NetSDK - MSSQLServer" I assume that's what I'm
trying to connect to.

Alex,

Looks like you have a named instance. Start up query analyzer. Use
jimmagee\NetSDK as the server name. Leave authentication as NT. If this
fails, try switching to SQL Server authentication and use SA & the proper
password.
