Author XP_SENDMAIL fails after SP2
Habib

Hi,

I have installed Service Pack 2 of SQL SERVER 2000 and
since then the xp_sendmail doesn't work and returns
following error:

Server: Msg 18025, Level 16, State 1, Line 0
xp_sendmail: failed with mail error 0x80004005

According to the MS Knowledge base the problem ocuures
only with Exchange 2000. But we use Exchane 5.5.

Any Idea?

Thanks

Habib

Hi,
It might be configuration issue, please check the following points:
1. Verify the user name logged into NT was also the user configured to
start SQL Server and Agent. At least, the startup account for SQL Server
and Agent should be the same domain user instead of LocalSystem account.
2. Verify Outlook2000 or later version has been installed on the SQL
Server machine
3. Check the email profile specified by both SQL Mail and SQL Agent Mail.
4. The user could send mail from Outlook directly via the same mail profile
specificed by both SQL Mail and SQL Agent Mail. There should be no prompt
window for user input when start Outlook such as the User and Password
authentication window.

Yan

Hi Yanwang,

Thanks for your Reply. But i have found the solution for the problem in
another link:
http://dbforums.com/archive/70/2002/04/1/338769

"...
Others have reported fixing the same problem by replacing the SQLMAP70.dll
dated
11/19/2001 with the version from SP1 or the original file on the SQL Server
CD.
Another alternative is to is to use xpsmtp, an extended stored procedure for
mailing
that just uses SMTP. It's available for download from:
http://www.sqldev.net/xp/xpsmtp.htm
...."

Here the solution (http://dbforums.com/archive/70/2002/04/1/338769):

....
Others have reported fixing the same problem by replacing the SQLMAP70.dll
dated
11/19/2001 with the version from SP1 or the original file on the SQL Server
CD.
Another alternative is to is to use xpsmtp, an extended stored procedure for

that just uses SMTP. It's available for download from:

That's an old post from these newsgroups (it's mine). There
is now a hotfix available which is a better solution:
FIX: SQLMail Extended Stored Procedures May Fail with an
Access Violation on SQL Server 2000 SP2 when SQL Server is
Run As a Windows NT Service (Q320407)
http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...b;EN-US;Q320407
